Year 7 Boys Football April 2019

On Monday 1st April 2019, our Year 7 footballers competed in the West Lancashire Final against Ormskirk School at the JMO in Skemlsedale. The boys were in high spirits on coach journey down and we arrived in plenty of time for a proper warm up and go through some tactics for the game. Ormskirk arrived and we soon kicked off just after 2pm and a crowd of parents and supporters were there in full force to cheer on Burscough Priory.

The game started well, as we controlled the first 10 minutes and that soon paid off with a goal for Burscough from a corner. George H crossing the ball in towards the near post for Tom to get in front of his man and the keeper to tap it in. Excellent start! Ormskirk on the restart gain momentum and possession of the ball putting us under pressure. Our defense was excellent throughout the first half and we managed to keep a clean sheet for the first half to stay 1-0 up at half time.

The second half didn’t get off to the best start as we conceded in the first 5 minutes from a very scrappy goal by Ormskirk and a blip in concentration from our defence. After the restart both teams were pushing to score the next goal with the play going back and forth as both teams trying to get a foothold on the game. Burscough managed to win a corner through some good work again from George up front. The ball was whipped in and it was met by George G who got the faintest of touches on the ball and hit an Ormskirk player for the ball to lucky roll into the back of the net. 2-1 Burscough. Ormskirk came close again to equalising but we managed to put the game to bed with a superb individual goal. The ball was fed through from midfield for George to run onto and dribble the ball to the right side of the 18 yard box where Ormskirk came off his line to close the angle down. George took the shot early and chipped the ball over their keeper for the ball to drop into the bottom left corner of the goal. A fantastic goal to finish off an outstanding team performance!! It was certainly no April fools!
