On the evening of Monday 1st October 2018, our Year 8 football team entertained the league champions St Bedes in what turned out to be a thriller. St Bedes showed some very neat touches and range of passing ability from the start. Burscough played with great determination and tenacity from the start closing them down and getting stuck into tackles, this resulted in St Bedes being limited to long range efforts and with Struan Stuart in goal looking confident and commanding, it proved it was going to have to be something special to beat him. Alfie Wright was a constant outlet throughout the match on the right hand side and it was his pressure closing down the goal keeper that led to the first goal. He closed down the over confident keeper robbed the ball off him and slotted the ball into an empty net.  The rest of the match carried on in the same vain, St Bedes dominating play and Burscough working tirelessly to close down play. With around five minute to play David Farragher pounced on another mistake at the back by St Bedes and lobbed the keeper from 25 yards out. Some changes at the back to tighten the back four almost backfired with Liam Irvine giving away a late penalty which they finally slotted past Struan Stuart after his man of the match performance. Burscough held on for the result of the season.
